In his 7th and final appearance on the countdown, Carl Warwick wore #16 for part of the 1962 season for the Colt 45s

Jim Busby wore #16 for the 1960-61 Orioles

Tex Carleton wore #16 for the 1935-38 Cubs.  Two photos because the first is one of those fantastically contrasted black-and-white photos that only seem to come from the Depression Era and the second from the 1938 World Series program.  Tex had a fairly short MLB career (8 seasons over 9 years) but played on the famous Gashouse Gang Cardinals and the last non-WWII aided Cubs World Series team prior to 2016.

So "Handsome Ransom" Randy Jackson (3rd from left) is a potentially controversial entrant in the countdown because TCU was the 2nd of three universities he played both football and baseball for.  He started at Arkansas, helped take the Frogs to the Cotton Bowl in 1945, then went with the Longhorns to the Cotton Bowl in 1946, so he did not finish a Frog.  He had two stints with the Cubs, the first a 7 year stint where he was a 2-time All-Star, then he was traded to Brooklyn to be a replacement for the aging Jackie Robinson at 2nd base where he hit the last home run in Brooklyn history and then tore up his knee after the move to LA.  Then after a pass through Cleveland, he finished his career back with the Cubs, wearing #16 in 1959.  There was a book published about his career in 2016 that I haven't read: https://www.amazon.com/Handsome-Ransom-Jackson-Accidental-Leaguer/dp/1442261544

My favorite blues album of the decade, and that says a lot with what I just posted above. If you don't get it within the first few seconds of the first track, I can't explain it to you. It is a compilation, but with a loaded cast in the backing band for it. Released only on CD and digital on February 24th, 2015...

Pirate metal! Folk or power, specifically, but this is all about every day being September 19th. (Not to be confused with the band Halestorm: that band isn't all about the pirate life, they aren't cool, and she seems whiny, even when she is singing about getting off.) The highlight to this release are the acoustic songs in the track list, though. (The R√ľmplugged bonus CD on the CD copies.) August 1st, 2014...

Apologies now, but 2013 was a very metal year. Only a couple of albums in my music collection that aren't self-restricted forms of harder metal. And the handful of rock albums are all being withheld because the artists that did them have much better options coming up.

Estonian Phil Anselmo leads a Southern/stoner/groove metal band. I am probably a bad Texan for this statement, but I think that they out do Pantera at being 1990s era Pantera with everything but guitar solos. April 1st, 2013...

373726.jpg?4659

From the ashes of Type O Negative after Peter Steele died, rose this band by the original drummer. Musically it is very Type O, vocally it is something between Peter Steele and Layne Staley. From May 2013...

And...

R-4614714-1507768103-1238.jpeg.jpg

Probably the hardest I will post, at least until we get down to #1. Swedish death 'n' roll. Really weak on the first part (they aren't the Tardy Borthers or later Entombed, for example), but the rock 'n' roll part is great. Very catchy...

R-4982941-1381316069-8407.jpeg.jpg

They released it on vinyl, but I haven't found anything beyond that it was vönHell Records catalog# JCSCLP001.

Psychedelic rock. Catchy and less Sabbathy than their first album (in a good way). And with a band name of Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats, they have to get some love. Plus, it came in vinyl. April 15th, 2013...

And...

On April 2, 1913 Polydor Records was founded by the German firm of Polyphon-Musikwerke AG in Leipzig. Their entire history is too complex to cover here (the Wiki page is linked for a rundown of it), but they have signed just about everyone famous and are currently under the Universal Music Group umbrella. The first 78 Polydor label I have found is from 1926...

Stoner rock from Athens. There is only one track on this album that I call good. And that track's music video features a fella wearing a TCU shirt, so it gets the nod here. From December 2012...

Definitely a guilty pleasure. The most mainstream album I listen to and will post for this century's portion of the countdown. Don't judge too hard, for every play of this, I have 100 of something much more extreme. From February 21st, 2012...

Their best album since the 1970s, in my opinion. Not as smooth and beautiful as the early Texas bluesy rock stuff, but solid. Far better than ZZ Pop. From September 11th, 2012...

In 1912, Thomas A. Edison, Inc. released Blue Amberol Records. They played longer than the previous versions of wax cylinders they replaced, and were more durable with a celluloid coating on the surface. They were still a cylinder, though, and the record was already a proven format and superior in nearly all aspects. They lasted as late as 1929, however. Early canister...
