Frogs in the Minors 2018

Recommended Posts

-Kevin Cron went deep three times last night for Triple-A Reno (D'Backs)!  He's now hitting .296 for the season with 11 HR, 48 RBI and an .884 OPS through 46 games.

-Chad Huffman was named to the International League's team for the Triple-A All Star Game.  He also went deep last night - his 7th of the year to go along with a .278 average, 24 RBI and an .859 OPS through 52 games for Toledo (Tigers).

-Brian Trieglaff picked up his first win since his promotion to Advanced-A Tampa (Yankees), where he now sports a nifty 1.62 ERA, tallying 15 K's to just 4 BBs in 16+ IP in 9 relief appearances.

-Luken Baker (Rookie League GCL Cardinals) and Durbin Feltman (Short Season A Lowell (Red Sox)) have yet to make their professional debuts.  I assume Baker is still dealing with his injury, but not sure why Feltman hasn't pitched yet.

Another multi-homer game for Kevin Cron

Indeed, Cron is absolutely on fire right now.  Through 49 games, he's hitting .302 with 13 HR, 54 RBI and a .908 OPS.  Whether it's with the Diamondbacks or not, he's going to break into the Bigs sooner than later.

A few other quick updates:

-PROMOTION: Preston Morrison was, despite his struggles, promoted to Triple-A Iowa by the Cubs organization

-Durbin Feltman made his pro debut for Short Season-A Lowell (Red Sox), with two strikeouts in a perfect relief innings.  17 total pitches, 12 of them strikes.

-Jerrick Suiter hit his first HR of the season for Triple-A Indianapolis (Pirates)

-Jantzen WItte has a 5-game hit streak going for Double-A Portland (Red Sox)

-Cam Warner has hit safely in 9 of the first 10 games this season for Short Season-A Connecticut (Tigers) - where he's now hitting .343

-Jordan Kipper & Austen Wade remain on the Disable List

-Brian Howard struck out 9 while tossing 7 scoreless innings in his 2nd start for Double-A Midland (A's).  Through two starts after his promotion, he's 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA.

-Looks like Preston Morrison's stint in Triple-A was just temporary, as he's back with Double-A Tennessee (Cubs) now.

-Brian Trieglaff, who'd trimmed his ERA at Advanced-A Tampa (Yankees) down to a tidy 1.62, is now on the disabled list.

-Durbin Feltman was perfect, again, in his second relief outing for Short-Season A Lowell (Red Sox)

-Sean Wymer has tossed 5 scoreless innings over his last two relief appearances for Short-Season A Vancouver (Blue Jays), bringing his ERA down to 5.40 after his forgettable debut.

You'd better go see Chuck Yeager and show him some TCU love from all of us. He's doing fantastic since going to the majors.

-Chad Huffman won the HR Derby at the Triple-A All Star Game.  This is his second title at this event - the first time was in 2009.

-Luken Baker made his professional debut yesterday for the GCL Cardinals, going 0-1 at the plate but drawing a walk and scoring a run.

-Jerome Pena is back in action in the Mexican League, this time with the Aquascalientes Railroaders.  He went 0-3 in his debut.

-Jordan Kipper is back from injury, on a rehab assignment for Short Season-A Aberdeen (Orioles), where he struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief in his first appearance

-Austen Wade is back from injury, on a rehab assignment for the AZL Indians, where he went 1-2 in his first appearance

-Durbin Feltman's streak of perfection is gone, but he worked around the first hit surrendered as a pro by strikiing out 3 and earning a save in his first appearance for Class A Greenville (Red Sox)

Jantzen Witte is back at AAA Pawtucket

Bad news: Jantzen's promotion to Triple-A was a temporary move.  He collected a base hit in his two-game stint with Pawtucket, but has since been moved back to Double-A Portland.

Good news: Nolan Brown has been promoted to Advanced-A Winston-Salem by the White Sox organization!  In 56 games with Class A Kannapolis, Nolan hit .285 with 6 doubles, a triple, 19 RBI and a .769 OPS.

I'm wondering if Jantzen might become trade bait in the near future. He seems to largely be doing okay, but now can't even get a regular spot in AAA. Are the Sox just that well stocked?

They have quite possibly the worst minor league system in baseball
