Too early to start a 2018-19 Basketball thread?

I think didnt they overlook him so much as they see him as more of a project (as I do).  Big jump from NZ HS to the Big 12.  With Samuel and Alok presumably manning the post (and Samuel may have his own growing pains), and Miller and Noi the 4s - which will be the case when they roll out a 3 guard alignment (with Noi also doing time at the 3), there may not be a lot of playing time available unless somebody else craters.  I would expect Lat Mayen to see more of the floor than McWilliam, maybe Barlow as well.

Angus did play internationally for the NZ junior team so he has had some experience beyond NZ high school basketball.  He also had all of last spring to practice with the team in a redshirt season (or half a redshirt season) so I think he has a shot to get some playing time.  His offensive game is pretty polished and reminds me of Vlad's except I think Angus is a more fluid athlete than Vlad. We are going to need some offense in the post to make up for losing Vlad.

Didnt see much playing time for the Junior Tall Blacks.

They obviously see something in him, and that's great.  But everything I've seen and heard says 'project'.  Nothing wrong with that.  Plus, Samuel and Mayen had a full year with the team, McWilliam only had 2nd semester.  working in his favor, it sounds like he's bulked up some, and for a team that still needs some beef, that's a benefit.

Junior Tall Blacks.

Surely Kiwis appreciate the irony of calling their basketball team this ...

Meanwhile, our compatriots south on 35 got the bulk of their home  NC games placed on FSSW+.

One game they did get on the main FSSW was their game against Nicholls State.

On Friday Nov 16......at 11am.

I think Samuel is going to be the guy who gives us the defensive presence we’ve been lacking. From all reports he has the tools to be a good rim defender and rebounder. Not sure what his offensive skill set is right now but he should be able to rebound misses and put in misses.

I have no knowledge but Barlow seems to be in line for a RS.

But Dixon noted that eight of his 13 scholarship players haven’t played college basketball.

“We’re the most veteran young team in America,” Dixon said. “I don’t know how we’re considered. We’ve got eight guys that haven’t played college basketball, yet we’re ranked in the Top 25. It’s the youngest group we’ve ever had. This is the year to be young because you at least have more time to work with your guys.”

Francisco Farabello, PG, Argentina commits.  4 star and the number 8 PG overall.

That gives us the 8th ranked recruiting class in the nation.  Our average rating per recruit is higher than Kansas.

I'm taking a "show me" approach with all the big men. Until I see them on the floor, hard to know what we have.

My question - how does he play in the Rickel? That's my gauge.

Angus is looking pretty mature for a freshman.  It looks like he has filled out a little bit since he got here from NZ.

Hopefully Angus will develop the way fellow Kiwi, Steven Adams, did under Dixon at Pitt:

Here is a pic of the two of side by side from last August.  Angus looks like he's bigger in the shoulders and chest and maybe a little taller as well.

Um, I'm betting Steven is Maori and therefore has the benefit of some genetics in his physical development. Angus looks a little more European to me.
