If anyone is interested in the goings-on in one of our old conferences, Boise State filed a complaint against the MWC yesterday alleging breach of contract in connection with the MWC's newly-announced deal with Fox and CBS.  Basically, after Boise postured with joining the Big East after we had "joined" and then left, they eventually signed a re-entry deal with the MWC whereby they would receive more money ($1.8 million) and get some of their games on the ESPN platforms.  In the re-entry deal, it provided that they would have to approve any new deals.  In December, the other MWC schools approved the new 6-year Fox/CBS deal, which will pay the conference much more than their previous deal (roughly $5 million), but Boise did not approve this deal.  And, the other MWC schools agreed to continue to pay BSU $1.8 million for another 6 years, but not to do so after that.  So even though BSU will continue to receive the $1.8 million (for 6 years) and more generally due to the overall new deal, they think they could have gotten more, presumably wanted to stay on ESPN and think that the MWC voiding their special treatment in the future violates the original understanding.  Both sides have announced that they each want to resolve this without a formal lawsuit, but that remains to be seen.  (With such doings, cue the inevitable conference realignment talk...)  Independence?  The AAC?  An amicable resolution?

Since joining the SEC, Texas A&M has spent $600 million on stadium & facility upgrades as well as guaranteed Head Coaching salaries in order to finally compete in their conference.

Conference Record
Big12 (0.527)
SEC (0.531)

Worth. Every. Penny.#AggieFactThursday 😎

If not already doe so, I expect they find a solution to remain in the MWC.  Boise has no other options, and I don't think they have been in the limelight as much lately with several AAC teams having been good recently.  What have you done for me lately is the media mantra for non-blueblood teams.

Kobe Bryant reportedly dead in helicopter crash in Calabasas, CA, this morning. ESPN doesn't have the story yet, but I saw a flash from TMZ who is breaking the story.

Confirmed by LA Times and ESPN now. Very sad.

It gets worse. TMZ says Kobe's 13 year-old daughter was also on board and died. Five people in total killed.

Kobe, his daughter, the pilot, another kid player and their parent.

Sounds like they were going to a practice for the kids.

@Rothbardian Come on, dude. Don't bring politics in here, especially right now.

Just pointing out the WaPo saying bad things about Kobe...

WaPo Reporter Felicia Sonmez tweeted, tried to walk it back, played the victim, and then deleted her tweet.

A plane with US troops went down yesterday in Afghanistan...just wanted to let y'll know.

Now, with that out of the way, we can get back to Kobe tributes.

I admit I was taken aback by the outpouring of grief yesterday and how it eclipsed every other breaking news story that's relevant to what's happening now. It was stunning to watch social media ricochet with the news of their deaths, and mostly the deaths of Kobe and his daughter. The other poor souls were nearly forgotten.

You raise an important point about how we tend to forget about those who serve to allow us the freedom to have the opportunity to stop our lives to grieve people who entertain us with athletic prowess.

The real tragedy is that we have been there since 2001

True.  Except we have also been in Germany and Japan for 75 years, so it is not exactly a new concept.

Any good commercials yet? I only joined right after the second quarter started and so far they blow.

The Hyundai was good.

As an “old,” the halftime sucked.

Cool Ranch Doritos was great.  My favorite so far.
