TCU Men's Tennis

Recommended Posts

Kudos to the women for beating Tech!

In men's action, the Frogs just won the doubles point against Dartmouth, with Norrie/Rybakov clinching it in the #2 doubles.

I'm beginning to think we have decent tennis teams.

Yeah, and we're looking particularly good today.  We are currently winning all 6 singles matches.  And Dartmouth's not bad - they're ranked 35th in the country.

Jerry Lopez gets the first W in straight sets.  2-0.

And Cameron Norrie takes his match in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.  But bad news on the other courts - Dartmouth has taken the lead in all four of the other second sets.  It's 3-0 now, but it's not over.

But Trevor Johnson rallies back in his 2nd set to win 7-5, and the Frogs sweep it 4-0!

That's 21 straight wins at home!  The re-match against Northwestern is up next.  The Frogs are on a roll, but the Wildcats are ranked 7th and should be a tough test.

Yeah, you used to be able to reserve them but now just strictly for the tennis teams. Built a few years after the new facility was finished. McLeland though added indoor courts a while back and they maintain them well.

Is the new facility the one that was there in the '90s?

Yes and indoor courts were there  already. Probably close to the last time I played on them.

It's 3-3 now, with the deciding match being played by Trevor Johnson in the #6 spot.  TCU won the doubles point, but the #7 Wildcats are fighting tough.  Norrie and Nava have won their singles matches.  Trevor won his first set 6-4, but trails 4-3 in the 2nd.  Very dicey!

Trevor now down a break 5-3 in the 2nd set.

Rybakov (playing #1) and Lopez both lost in three sets.  Nunez lost two close straight sets.

Trevor Johnson loses the 2nd set 6-3.  The whole TCU-Northwestern match now rides entirely on the 3rd set.  With Guillermo Nunez, it was Trevor that won the deciding match in the doubles in a tie-break.  He really needs a clutch win in the 3rd set here.  Go Trevor!  Go Frogs!

Johnson takes a 2-love lead in the third set!  Up a break!

Northwestern has won 11 matches in a row and is off to their hottest start in program history.

Ouch!  Now 2-2.  He's playing Ben Vandixhorn.

Johnson takes a 5-2 lead!  Two breaks up!  Looking good!

The Frogs Win!  Johnson clinches it 6-2 in a deciding third set.  This is a very big win for the #3 team - the hated Aggies next in College Station next Monday).

Here's some preview info on tonight's matches against the Aggies.  A&M (17-5) is coming off a tough 4-3 loss to Vanderbilt, but before that, they'd won 5 straight and 9 out of the last 11 matches.  They have 3 singles players ranked and two of their doubles teams are ranked.  TCU leads the all-time series 36-19 and won two matches against them last year, but prior to that, A&M won 8 straight from us from 2007-14. All-time, TCU is 14-11 in matches played at College Station.  This will be the 6th Top 15 team TCU has played so far this season.  Doubles matches start at 6:00 p.m.

The Frogs lose the doubles point (sigh).  We each won one easily, the third went to a tie-break, and we lost.  Need 4 out of 6 now.  Singles just starting.

1-1 now, with Trevor Johnson winning in straight sets.  But the other matches don't look good...

Maybe I spoke too soon.  The Frogs take a lead with a straight set win from Guillermo Nunez!

Now 2-2 as Eduardo Nava falls in 2 sets.

The three remaining matches: Norrie (7-6; 3-3); Rybakov (3-6, 4-5); and Lopez (2-6, 6-4, 2-2).  Very close...

Aw man... Rybakov loses.  It's up to Norrie and Lopez now.

Norrie wins!  7-6, 6-4.  Now 3-3 and all up to Jerry Lopez, and it's 3-3 in the third and deciding set.

Lopez now 4-4 in the deciding set.  Man, this is close.  Go Frogs!  Beat the Aggies!

Now 5-5.

Now 6-6.  Into a deciding tie-breaker!

YES!!!!  Lopez wins the tie-break (12-10) and the Frogs beat the Aggies 4-3.  This is a YOOOOGE W for the Frogs!  And a key clutch W for Lopez!  I can barely believe it after the slow start (again).

Next up are the Rice Owls at home at noon on April Fool's Day.
