For those of you not watching KU destroy us in basketball, the tennis matches against Stanford in Austin are underway and the #2 Frogs have struck first by winning the doubles point.  The singles matches have just started.  This is part of the Big12-Pac12 Challenge, with multiple teams in action today.

It's really really close in all 6 singles matches: Norrie is 6-2, 3-6, 1-2; Rybakov is 6-7, 4-2; Nunez is 4-6, 7-5, 5-3;  Lopez 6-7 3-3; Nava 7-6, 4-5; and Daniel 3-6, 6-4 1-0.  All in doubt...

Update:  Nunez takes it in the 3rd set 6-3.  Frogs now lead 2-0; with 5 singles matches remaining.

Need 3 of the singles to pull it out.  Where is Stanford ranked? edit: 18

Went to the UT scoring site.  Looks like TCU has the #3 single won

Nava takes the 2nd set tiebreak!  But Norrie loses in the 3rd.  So 3-1 now.  We just need one more for the W!

Daniel and Lopez both down a break in their 3rd sets. :(   But Rybakov up 3-0 in his 3rd set! :D

And Rybakov clinches the W w/ a 6-0 3rd set!!!!

Daniel falls in the 3rd.  Lopez still playing.  4-2 now, the Frogs have beaten Stanford!  Cal is tomorrow; same bat-time, same bat-channel.

Arrrgh!  Rybakov hasn't won yet, the UT site just refreshed and says it's 5-0, not 6-0.  I feel like Steve Harvey at the Miss Universe pageant.  It's not over yet....

From kfc, here's a really good article about the Stanford matches and tomorrow's key battle against Cal (to whom we have lost twice in a row): http://killerfrogs.com/index,php/2016/02/06/men's-tennis-battles-stanford-2-4-2-victory/  Some good quotes from Coach Roditi that gives a good description of the tense matches.  The keys were the comeback wins after being down a set and the freshmen (Rybakov and Nava) victories over ranked foes for the first time ever.

I really can't emphasize enough that this year shapes up to potentially be the most exciting tennis season ever at TCU.  Apparently, we had a bunch of fans down in Austin for the Stanford match - I'm planning on going to the Northwestern matches in 3 weeks in Evanston.

No joy in Mudville - TCU falls 4-2 to #24 Cal, who is rapidly becoming our nemesis.  We won the doubles point and took a 2-0 lead, but lost the remainder of the matches.  First loss of the season.  Bummer.

Probably will cost us a spot or two in the rankings

No team rankings this week, but TCU has three ranked players in singles.  But the most important news is that the draw has been released for this weekend's ITA National Indoors tournament - TCU will face #7 Illinois on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Charlottesville.  The Frogs have already faced Illinois this Spring, playing to a draw although the result doesn't count for the official record, which is 3-1.  Illinois is damn good - the Frogs will have to play well to get a W.  Obviously, with virtually all the top teams in this tourney, this weekend's results are important for the rankings for the entire year.

Also, A.J. Alix (of the women's basketball team) and tennis star Jerry Lopez were named as the TCU Muscle Milk athletes of the week.

The Frogs just won the doubles point, with Cameron Norrie and Trevor Johnson taking the set 7-6, in the third decided match.  On to the singles!

Ni hao ma!  Jerry Lopez takes the first set from Pengxuan Jiang.  Early on, the Frogs lead in all the singles matches other than #3.

Update: Que bueno!  Spaciba!  Cameron Norrie and Alex Rybakov win their first sets!

Further update:  Good going bro!  Trevor Johnson wins his first set.

Additional update:  Muy Bien!  Guillermo Nunez storms back to take his first set in a tiebreaker!  Y Eduardo Nava gano!

And the Frogs win 4-0!!!  Just like that!  Rybakov and Johnson go final too!

TCU will face the winner of USC and USF (currently in progress) tomorrow!

And here's the remainder of the brackets: UVa. v. USD tonight.  OU v. Wake Forest tonight.  USF v. USC (in progress).  And on the other side, Ohio State beat Baylor, UNC beat Tech, A&M beat Columbia and UCLA beat Georgia.  If we beat the USC/USF winner, we'll probably face #1 Virginia in the semis.

It'll be TCU v. USC, in a re-match of the 1998 Sun Bowl today at 5:30ish.  Same link as yesterday for the live scoring.

The Frogs lose the doubles point.  Now, we need to win 4 out of the 6 singles matches, which have started.

Update: The Frogs are leading in 3 singles matches; losing in 1, and 2 are 6-6 in the first set.
