I'm no Constitutional scholar, but I don't think the 10th Amendment gives the President those powers over the Governors. He actively avoided shutting down anything, so why should he have the authority to open it up again?

The republican apparent effort in Wisconsin to shape the electorate away from cities and concentrate it out to rural areas appears to have soundly failed. Their preferred Supreme Court candidate is down by 7 points with 90% of the votes that were cast counted. I wonder how many will get sick and how many will die producing this result?

Anyone wanna bet whether we'll see calls to invalidate the results, now?

I think the latest Constitutional theory is that the President can do anything he damn well pleases if at least 34 U.S. Senators go along with it.

That's pretty much always been true. What is different now is that there ARE more than 34 such Senators.

Looking back on how I viewed a potential Trump presidency in 2015/2016, it's clear that I:

-Grossly underestimated his incompetence, childishness and aversion to transparency/oversight.  I mean, I knew all along he was an unethical moron, but hoo boy!

-Grossly overestimated the willingness of Republicans - particularly those in the Senate - to provide pushback and oversight when it's so obviously in need.  I always knew people like Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham were relatively spineless - but I was suprised to see the Rand Pauls and Marco Rubios of the world turn into sycophants so quickly.  Even our own John Cornyn and Canada's own Ted Cruz have shown a distinct lack of testicles the past 3 years.   At the House level, it's been sad to see Kay Granger turn herself out to the extent she has.

@Lyle Lanley IIII take a look at what Liz Cheney said, though. Made me do a double take. Maybe there's a little hope some of them love the republic more than themselves.

I love that with a couple tweets and then a response to questions about said tweets, Dems are now proponents of the 10th Amendment and States' Rights.

We are living in bizarro world right now.

I have stated on here more than once how much I dislike politics and have tried to stay away from political discussions.  I have, pretty much, voted a straight Republican ticket since I was old enough to vote.  The events of the past few months has changed me somewhat.  I was a Trumper, even.  However, I can no longer overlook how almost every time he opens his mouth all he does is spew garbage and lies.  And that bothers me.  The American people deserve more than that.  Am I a Biden fan?  Not necessarily, I’m just anti-Trump.  Some will say I’m being shortsighted regarding all the “good” things Trump has done.  So be it.  I just can’t put my arms around this President any longer.

So, he is causing the Treasury Dept to further slow down the paper stimulus checks they're sending out just so that they can put his name on the "memo" line. They can't put it on the actual signatory line because he's not authorized for that. I'll be damned. I thought there was almost no way the ass could get any more vain. I sure hope this is one of the many things that gets walked back the day after it comes out.

Hey now. Just think of all the personal warm feelings of thanks, personal fealty, and and general bonhommie for him you'll feel looking at that signature. Why you may never cash the check but rather frame it as a treasured keepsake in your personal shrine! In any case, what incredible largesse he shows in providing us with all this money personally!

This must be a modern "conservative" thing. Harper, in Canada--a regular at CPAC, etc.--did the same when he was PM. Went so far as to junk ALL govt stationery with "Govt of Canada" at the head to substitute new stationery with  "The Harper Govt" at the head. Was actually a factor in the campaign that led to his demise at the polls. The conservatives in Ontario changed the license plates to their party colors palette when they won recently. Turns out they are quite unreadable in less than perfect conditions due to contrast issues. In particular, police have complained they can't see them. Especially at night. But again, the truly impt thing is to know that you are driving at the largesse of the Party. Not silly little things like usability.

Imagine Ike doing this. Or Poppy Bush. Or even Nixon. I cannot.

What blows my mind the most is that these very same sources keep decrying "radical socialism" among others as they emplace boilerplate-standard, radical socialist agit-prop methods and processes into the govt  daily. Proverbs 6:16-19 is looking more proverbial every day.

Dying! 🤣🤣

"This is covid-19, not covid-1, folks, and so you would think the people charged with the World Health Organization facts and figures would be on top of that,” Conway said during an interview on Fox News."

[Should be read in Narrator's voice]: "In fact, the “19” at the end of the virus’s name denotes that it was discovered in 2019, not that it is the 19th strain of the virus. At its outset, it was referred to by health officials as the “2019 novel coronavirus.”

https://www.star-telegram.com/news/coronavirus/article241975561.html

Tarrant officials finally informed us what model on which they rely.  Its from https://covidactnow.org/us/tx/county/tarrant_county.  Interestingly, this model has been shown to be grossly inaccurate nationwide with respect to hospital beds.

More interestingly? https://covidactnow.org/faq Even their own website acknowledges that the hospital bed count data is outdated.

Actual Dallas County hospitalizations on 4/10: 150

Current COVID ACT NOW model assumes Dallas had 419 hospitalizations on 4/8.

https://covidactnow.org/us/tx/county/dallas_county

Small correction: The model assumptions when fed into the appropriate equations produces a specific result. Not the other way around.

One of the more important assumptions involves how much social distancing is actually occurring.as this directly impacts about the most important parameter in infectious disease models: R0.

Remember the glory days, back when oil was above $0.00 ?

Is it true that it never settled negative before today? Today's price was -$37.63/barrel.

What's the deal? A bunch of margin calls come due? Or all the tanks and ships full to the brim?

I (briefly) heard on Channel 5 that a bunch of contracts were coming due and yeah, there was no place to store the excess.

From WaPo:

“The May futures contract for West Texas Intermediate crude, which expires Tuesday, fell below $0 per barrel Monday afternoon. When futures contracts near expiration, prices generally dovetail with the price of a physical barrel of oil. The June contract, which expires on May 19, fell nearly 9 percent, $22.68 a barrel.”
