Somehow I doubt he'd have had heart surgery within hours of having chest pains under a medicare-for-all system.

He would. You wouldn't.

Bernie Sanders is very lucky he's not living under a socialized health care system because he wouldn't be living under a socialized health care system.

I went to the doctor this morning in a hospital in that socialist hellhole called Canada. In the parking lot at 9:07. Walked in to the hospital. Waited about 3 minutes to go to the exam room. Another 2 or 3 there. Got business done (BP way too low due to my recent 25% weight loss) in about half an hour. Back out to car and punched out of lot at 9:50.

Total cost: $0.75 Cdn (60 cents or so U$) for the parking. Truly hellish.

On that front, how did (if it did) Canada transition to that system?  The one thing I'm trying to work through with the Democrats this election cycle is that it seems silly to upend the whole (albeit shitty) American medical system and replace it with 'Medicare-for-all' or 'single-payer' or whatever rather than offer it as an option in competition with private insurance.  That way, if the Dems are right and it works better, the system would transition gradually rather than in an uncertain upheval.  And if it doesn't work better, then the Reps can claim victory and maybe come up with ideas to improve the shitty system we have and have had for decades.

This comes at a time when I am about to change companies/jobs and have been reminded once again how stupid it is that our health insurance is tied to our employment.  I've spent most of the last 3 days trying to get my hands around what kind of financial impact this career move is going to have on my family.  For instance, Li'l Duq is recently in braces and I am currently two months into a payment plan that is based on the coverage that my old company's insurance provided that is now almost certainly going to change.  I am anticipating many months of fighting with the Medical Industrial Complex to get this transition to occur without costing me more of a fortune than the braces are already costing me.

Our current medical system, and I think this is the technical medical term, sucks ass.  It floors me that we criticize the way other countries have constructed their systems when ours costs more with measurably worse outcomes on the whole.  I don't know whether Medicare-for-all will work but I'm sure as hell willing to try something.  What we have now sucked before Obamacare and it sucks (maybe slightly less) after Obamacare, which was a right-of-center approved approach before a Democratic president co-opted it and made it an anathema to the right.   I'm willing to listen to ideas, and right now I'm only hearing ideas from the Left.

Good God in heaven, the wheels are off the bus. I agree with the description that he's "flailing and melting down on national TV". Now he wants China to investigate the Bidens.

Don't know a whole lot. Do know that the first plan was brought in by Tommy Douglas in Saskatchewan in the late 50's. When he came in, the first thing he did was pay the debt down to zero (making "conservative" banks a little angry in the process due to no more easy govt money underwritten by the taxpayers). Then  he introduced single payer. The doctors struck, of course, as that came between the "sacred doctor-patient relationship". 23 days later they decided to go back to work and the plan spread from there to the feds.

Instead of yelling out "Squirrel" people are going to have to start yelling "Biden" instead when someone tries a stupidly elementary misdirection trick.

Just a point of clarification, a think-tank wrote that they opposed government intervention in health care, but if if it did intervene this is how they should do it.

Fair enough.  Right-of-center side-eye approved ...

Don't know. No ticks here in Newfoundland. No snakes, skunks or deer either. No trichinosis or bee mites as well. Sometimes being isolated isn't such a bad thing.

That said, far as I know, prescribing antibiotics is the best available cure and physicians are allowed to prescribe them.

Seems legit.

"...even if that means requesting the help of a foreign country or countries."

Predicating 100s of millions of duly approved aid to a country under attack to help yourself and not the country isn't exactly most people's idea of a a polite "request"!!!

It's more along the lines of: "Sure would be terrible if your business somehow caught on fire". Of course in Trumpworld this rather obvious point is ignored.

Pissing off our allies and breaking promises to those we agree to help. He's causing the US to be reviled all to score points with his base when his back is against the wall.

Just now he has threatened to "obliterate" the economy of Turkey if they don't follow his orders. Economic obliteration is an act of war. Turkey is a NATO ally that we are sworn to defend if attacked. So I guess we'd have to withdraw from NATO first but the rest would be obliged to fight the US.

Oh, but you didn't quote the entire tweet. It's really good.

“As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!)” Trump tweeted.

And now he's even made his BFF Lindsey Graham angry with him. No, more like incendiary with outrage.

The battle against fascism will only be won when the Republican party is not only out of office but made downright illegal.

Not sure I'd agree. But the party most definitely needs to break free of its present fascination with oligarchs and polemicists and return to Main Streets which were its core for a long time.

Of course a lot of Main Streets have disappeared as well so that may not be possible.

It is interesting that after almost 3 years of phucing over the American people,  it is Trump phucing over the Kurds that finally gets Republicans to turn on him ...
