Further to DTF's question. I love Pompeo's outraged answer about no actual specifics: "We couldn’t reduce them to writing"!!!

Imagine if Obama had come back with an "agreement" where specific promises could not be "reduce[d] ... to writing"! Surely Fox and Friends would be trumpeting Obama's successes to the heavens in such a case!!!

How many broken ribs back in NK are there from laughing too hard?

Nah. Obama would just do a nuclear deal with Iraq that they can't even talk about and involved pallets of cash.

It's almost comical how damned if does damned if he doesn't Trump is.

Obama came back from Iran meetings with specific language, specific commitments, a specific inspection/verification regime, and the support of the western allies.

Trump came back with zero specific language, zero commitments, no inspection regime, and no support from any ally--not even South Korea or Japan or the Pentagon who all seemed to be somewhat taken aback by Trump's concessions.

Sorry. This is not both ways-ism.  And you know damned well if Obama had come back with this slightly worse than nothingburger you and the Fox/Breitbart nexus would have been a smidgeon less than completely supportive.

And remember the right wing pol and media reaction Obama's "bow" to a foreign ally (Saudi king)? How about this one? ... (Note Kim's smile when he sees it. It's been running on NK state media since. For good NK propaganda reasons.)

I'm totally sure their would have been massive support from the rep caucus and media had Obama saluted an NK general! (For my part, I'll accept confusion on DT's part here...and Obama's then.)

This seems relevant to the last few posts.

Image result for political spectrum meme

The problem is that morning/nightly news and the 24 hour news channels add extra fuel to the fire by blowing up every single issue, to feed that loud, but small portion of their audience. That, and our average citizen, while smarter in some aspects (i.e. the ability to operate technology), is also much dumber in some more important aspects (i.e., caring more about celebrities' social lives than the economy, world events, etc.).

According to mediamatters.org, one example was the recent study from Harvard researchers estimating that approximately 5,000 deaths can be linked to Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. But that story was buried because Roseanne Barr posted something racist on twitter.puerto-rico-roseanne-chart-2.png

Then there is the fact that CNN alone interviewed Michael Avenatti 59 times in 54 days, because Trump had consensual sex, allegedly, with a washed up porn star a decade ago. Meanwhile, during that same time period, "Newsbusters also found that 'all 51 Republican Senators combined received just 34 interviews on the cable network.'"

While there is a point at base, I disagree to some degree. For example, I have a hard time believing that you think in your professional opinion that NK is suddenly not a nuclear threat any more (in either the military or common usage of "threat") and that it will denuclearize in order to get beachfront hotels! Certainly many neocons don't think so...e.g., Kaplan, Kristol, etc. Kaplan: "A Win for Kim: This was a very good day for the leader of North Korea." ... "Game and set to Kim." Kristol: " 'There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea.' Delusional and dangerous." They are hardly extreme libtards so they don't fit well on your continua.

I might go farther and think you might harbor some small worries that alliances like NATO, etc. may be in at least some turmoil if not some level of danger.

But I stand to be corrected on any of the above, of course.

McConnell on the state of the party:  “In my view, the last 16 months have been the single best period for conservative values since I came to Washington [in 1985]. ... And this is not hyperbole.”

I see no notion of "necessary evil" here at all. I see happiness with the situation.

Mitch is sadly mistaken.

That was their cash, from their frozen assets.  Omaha gave them their money back, not American money.

Is booze provided?  Do you guest quarters in your home?  Dave and I may be visiting this fall.

I never drink sailing--not a good idea when singlehanding in the North Atlantic like I normally do. The time to get blotto is at the dock with sailing friends.

My house isn't set up for guests, sadly.  That said, please come. In Sep the sailing is usually very good except for late season hurricanes from time to time. October less so and boats get pulled late in the month, but hiking is wonderful. Mid-Sep to early Oct is the best time of the year to be out on the land, usually. The only down part is sea life (whales, etc.) tends to be leaving in late Aug, so it is landscape and flora more than any fauna then if you're outdoorsy after that unless you go adventure tour and go back to caribou. Sometimes that is when giant bluefin tuna visit near my marina, however. That can be spectacular as they are really, really large fish.

That said, tourism is big here but a lot of nonadventure tourist stuff shuts down on or just after Labour Day. What sort of experiences are you looking for?  If you are seriously wealthy the Fogo Island Inn is a world class experience any time of the year. But we are talking prime minister/Hollywood type clientele and prices. Trinity Theater in the Bight is a great company in a beautiful location and there is a very famous hiking trail near there: Skerwink Trail. But the theater season pretty much ends Labour Day. Provincial parks tend to close mid-Sep.

And pot should be legal and cheap by then! (Though that's not the way to seek new experiences other than sleep, really.)

PM me any time.

And to stay on topic: God save you. Further, on the plus side, if you stick with local media, there will be pretty much NO election stuff from the US to deal with which should really up the quality of any relaxing vacation experience and truly seem an act of God.

Actually he never actually did any work for the campaign. We have the President's word on this. Specifically: "Manafort has nothing to do with our campaign," Trump said.

So take your fake news about someone who worked for only 144 days and never did nuttin nohow elsewhere now that you have the truth straight from the president.
