  1. Sitting at a high school soccer game in a middle class, largely white suburb and over the PA comes Straight Outta Compton.  Can you imagine that song getting played at a suburban white public school 30 years ago?  The PA guy would have been fired on the spot and drug out of the stadium. How catastrophically Tipper Gore failed ...

Purdue  scares the bejeebers out of me.  SMU won't be a cakewalk

I suspect Purdue is a mediocre .500-ish Big 10 team.  If we cannot beat them, I will suspect that we are a mediocre .500-ish Big XII-II team.

Maybe I'm off and Purdue is a legit contender for the B1G-West, but Purdue is nothing if not consistently average, at least since Tiller left.  We, OTOH, have bounced between mediocre and conference champion caliber year-to-year recently.  I think this game tells us what we are.

This was brought up on the Frogs o' War podcast too.  They pointed out that Bama has played precisely two true OOC road games during Saban's entire tenure at Bama.  The sense of entitlement is strong in Tuscaloosa ...

And those two road games were Duke in 2010 and Penn State in 2011.  Basically, every single year, Alabama plays 7 home games, 4 road games, and a neutral site game during the regular season.

This is a very telling fact

Not only that, but the fact that Purdue has only BEEN to 1 more Rose Bowl than TCU, as have Northwestern and Minnesota.  TCU has been to the same number of Rose Bowls as Indiana, Harvard, and Washington & Jefferson ...

That "ode" wasn't really clever or insulting.  TCU is little (small) by design - we do it intentionally.  Aren't we the smallest P5 school?  And "popularity" isn't really the goal - winning football games is.  And it's just wrong about the supposed lack of culture or history - we're not Bama, but we've got a lot more history than Purdue does.  We've got more overall W's, MNC's, Conference championships, bowl appearances, bowl W's, Heisman W's, Top 10 AP finishes and weeks in the AP poll than they do.  They've got us on most consensus All-Americans, most NFL draft picks and most weeks at #1 in the AP poll. But they do own a 2-0 record against us.  And they do have a history with some great QB's.  There really isn't much of a TCU-Purdue rivalry and 1 game this year and another a decade from now isn't likely to generate much of a rivalry.  But there's nothing wrong with trying to generate one - kudos for the effort but it needs better execution.

Also in reference to the Frogs o' War podcast (Ilistened to it this morning so it is on my brain), they (Jamie Plunkett and Melissa Triebwasser) brought up that there has been a lot of Purdue social media commentary that Moore will be the best receiver that we have ever seen.  They then listed off all the Big XII-II receivers that are now starting on Sunday in the NFL that we've seen and (for the most part) shut down over the last half decade or so.

All that can be said about week 2 is when the top score is only 35, and it's by that damned computer, you know it was a bad week. I'm sure I speak for all of us (including @Army Frog Fan ) in thanking the Fighting Harbaughs for finally showing up to play, better late than never. And the Huskies did none of us any favors. It was the only other pick we all agreed on, to the tune of 7 points or better! 👿 Onward👉 More pickin' to come!

And the damned computer should have been higher because its week-kneed human rearranged the top 4 confidence picks based on "gut."  2018 DUSHEE with returning production adjustments liked Clemson as the top-confidence pick, but Washington seemed like the safer bet ...

  8. My bigger question marks are the teams ranked 7-10, not sure what any of them have done to make anyone think they are top 10, besides their blue-bloodedness.  Maybe Auburn beating Oregon starts to look impressive after what the Ducks did to Nevada, but then Auburn turned around and had trouble putting Tulane away.
