The Grateful Dead played Daniel-Meyer Coliseum at TCU on November 14, 1971.  Why in the world are we not hosting concerts at Schollmaier?

The story as it was told to me when I was a student at TCU was that this very Grateful Dead concert and the hippie crowd that it drew made the administration so uptight and upset that they vowed to never allow a big-name pop concert in a campus facility.

  2. Down to the final 4 and the good news is that 3 of the 4 teams that have been eliminated are 3 of the 4 SEC teams.  The bad news is that the remaining SEC team is in the driver's seat in their half of the bracket, but at least it's Vanderbilt, the least offensive of the SEC schools.

As it stands, Tech has to beat Michigan twice to advance (first opportunity today at 2ET/1CT) and Louisville has to beat Vanderbilt twice (starting tonight at 7ET/6CT).  If either Tech or Louisville win, the same teams play tomorrow.  If Michigan and/or Vandy win, they are into the Finals.

Not my point. My point is that gun laws don’t change things one way or the other.

    On what basis?

2017 Houston Astros World Series parade with 1mm people had zero gun incidents. And our laws are far less strict than Canada’s.

Repeating above, Canada has had, on average and per capita, almost 1/10 of the shooting deaths America has

Do you honestly think that the shootings would have doubled or tripled if Torontos gun laws were similar to Houston’s?

Toronto and Canada have had stricter gun laws than Houston's or America's on average, for a while.  They have almost 1/10 of the shooting deaths, per capita, per the link I provided above.  Europe has, largely, much stricter gun laws than the US and much lower gun violence rates.  If you look here, you'll see that gun-related homicide rates are highest in the deep South, where gun control is weak.  Gun-related suicides are highest in the Mountain West and New England, where the gun control laws are quite different.

Point is, if you are looking for a correlation between lax gun restrictions and low gun violence (in cultures similar to our own) rates per the "only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun" theory, I think you will be hard pressed to find it.

Those are the findings of the latest version of an annual report on gun violence from the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, which tracks lives lost in every country, in every year, by every possible cause of death.

The report points out that when you consider countries with the top indicators of socioeconomic success — income per person and average education level, for instance — the United States is bested by just 18 nations, including Denmark, the Netherlands, Canada and Japan.

Those countries all also enjoy low rates of gun violence. But the U.S. has the 28th-highest rate in the world: 4.43 deaths due to gun violence per 100,000 people in 2017. That was nine times as high as the rate in Canada, which had 0.47 deaths per 100,000 people — and 29 times as high as in Denmark, which had 0.15 deaths per 100,000.
