  1. -Arrieta gave up 1 run in 5+ against the Pirates last night. He took a no decision to remain 8-7 on the year but shaved his ERA down to 4.40. Next scheduled start is next Friday at home against the Braves. -Cashner's first start with the BoSox didn't go all that well - he gave up 5 runs on 8 hits in 5 IP to take the loss. That drops him to 9-4 on the year and increases his ERA to 4.09. Next scheduled start is Sunday afternoon against his old team in front of their fans at Camden Yards. -Carpenter was put back on the 10-day DL, this time after fouling a pitch off his foot. -Young has really made the most out of what appeared to have been a short-term call up to the D'Backs. In his three starts, he's 3-0 with an 0.96 ERA and an 0.48 WHIP. Next scheduled start is Sunday afternoon against the Brew Crew. -Holaday went 1-3 in his start against the Padres on Wednesday - pushing his current hit streak to 8 and bumping his average up to .314 for the year -Cron was sent back down to Triple-A Reno by the D'Backs again.

  3. I may have told this story on here before, but I know someone who played in high school with his Dad. Said he was the most naturally & freakishly strong person he'd ever met. I've been impressed to see how Izaih has put on weight since getting to campus. He was in a walking boot at the spring game - I hope he's healthy coming in to fall camp.

  6. -Jantzen Witte has extended his hit streak to 7 games for Triple-A Pawtucket (Red Sox) -Riley Ferrell has been promoted to Triple-A Round Rock by the Astros' organization. He tossed a perfect inning of relief with one strikeout in his debut for the Express. He's now got a cumulative 1.02 ERA in 13 appearances for 5(!) different minor league teams this year.

  12. -Jantzen Witte has 8 hits across his last 4 games for Triple-A Pawtucket (Red Sox), including 3 doubles and 3 RBI. He's now hitting .280 with 6 HR, 30 RBI and a .769 OPS. -Sean Wymer picked up a W in his second straight start for Class A Lansing (Blue Jays), spreading 1 run across 6+. He's now 5-7 on the year and got his ERA down to 5.99 after it'd been at nearly 9.00 in May. -Brandon Williamson pitched a scoreless inning with 1 K in his professional debut for Short-Season A Everett (Mariners) -Jake Guenther went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in his last game for Rookie League Princeton (Rays), where he's now hitting .310 with 2 RBI through 8 games.
  13. -Cashner's first scheduled start in a Red Sox uniform is Tuesday night at Fenway against the Blue Jays. -Alex Young's first post-break start is Tuesday night opposite #Lynnsanity and the Rangers in Arlington. -Arrieta gave up 1 run in 5 IP in his first post-break start for the Phils, taking a no-decision to remain at 8-7 for the season while his ERA was trimmed to 4.54. Next scheduled start is Friday night in Pittsburgh. -Carpenter is 2-for-12 in his first three games back from injury. He's now hitting .214 for the year. -Cron struck out in his only post-break at-bat so far. He's now hitting .204 in 25 total games for the D'Backs this year. -Holaday went 1-for-3 with a walk in his first post-break appearance for the Marlins, extending his hit streak to 7 and bumping his season average up to .313

  21. -Arrieta was shelled in his last outing, giving up 5 earned runs on 11 hits in just 4.1 IP. He drops to 8-7 on the year and his ERA jumped up to 4.67 - but the news gets worse, as it was discovered that he has a bone spur in his throwing elbow which will require surgery at some point. As of now, it hasn't been determined if that'll happen now or after the season. -Cashner has won his last three starts for the Orioles, going at least 6 innings in each and totalling 13 K's against just 2 walks in that span. He's now 9-3 on the year with a svelte 3.83 ERA, which has led to some speculation about his availability at the trade deadline. His first post-break start is scheduled for next Sunday against Tampa Bay. -Carpenter hasn't played since June 29 after being put on the DL with a lower back strain. Through 77 games, he's batting .216 with 10 HR, 28 RBI and a .706 OPS. -Holaday has hit safely in his last 6 appearances for the Marlins. He's only played in 16 games this year, but he's hitting .311 with 2 HR, 7 RBI and an .893 OPS. -Cron is 1 for his last 10, though the 1 was a HR. Through 24 total big league games, he's hitting .208 with 4 HR, 11 RBI and an .806 OPS. -Alex Young has made the most of his recent call-up to join the Diamondbacks. In his last outing, he tossed 6 no-hit innings on 71 pitches against the Rockies before being pulled. Through two starts and one relief appearance for Arizona, he's 2-0 with an 0.68 ERA in 13.1 total IP with 9 K's against 2 walks. No word yet on his place in the rotation after the break, but the D'Backs do play the Rangers out at The Temple on July 16-17. -Tyler Alexander (Tigers) and Stefan Crichton (D'Backs) are back at Triple-A after very respectable showings in their brief call-ups. Riley Ferrell was waived by the Marlins and, as a Rule 5 pick, returned to the Astros organization where he's pitched 4 scoreless IP in his first three relief appearances for Double-A Corpus Christi.

  23. Brian Howard was just named the Texas League's Pitcher of the Week for his last two starts in which he tossed a combined 13 IP giving up just 1 one, striking out 8 and walking just 1. For the year at Double-A Midland (A's), he's now 7-5 with a 2.75 ERA and 88 K's against 33 walks. He's pitched at least 6 innings in his last five starts for the Rockhounds.
  24. Alex Isola has been promoted to Class A by the Twins' organization, where he'll join the Cedar Rapids Kernels. In 7 games in the Rookie Leagues, Isola hit 10-for-25 (.400) with 2 doubles, 1 HR, 8 RBI and a 1.029 OPS.
