  1. How many more slots do we have to fill? It feels like we're going to be thin on the inside next year.
  2. Sounds like Joe Biden is going to make it official and toss his hat into the ring this week. I have a suspicion that he may be the Jeb Bush of this cycle - far more popular as a hypothetical campaign than as an actual one, and early frontrunner status that fizzles once things really get going.
  3. I've seen some chatter about the Bengals taking a QB (perhaps Haskins from Ohio State) in the first round. Clearly, I hope that doesn't happen.
  4. Riley Ferrell has been moved from the 10-day DL to the 60-day DL by the Marlins.
  5. Arrieta gives up 2 runs in 8 IP for the Phillies this afternoon against the Mets. Improves to 3-1 on the year with a 2.25 ERA. Next start is Monday, also against the Mets. It'll be on ESPN.
  6. Good news and bad: The bad: Brandon Finnegan has been reassigned by the Reds' organization to the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer (Rookie) League. So he's in extended spring training for now. The good: Kevin Cron is 10-for-23 during his current 6-game hit streak for Triple-A Reno (D'Backs). That stretch also includes 5 walks drawn against just 2 strikeouts. Through 12 total games, he's hitting .340 with five doubles, 4 HR, 16 RBI and a 1.138 OPS.
  7. Right - again, no one's going to pass the purity test of Ron Paul's most ardent followers - likely even Dr. Paul himself, were he to somehow get elected. And my point is that "conservative" voters really don't seem to give a flip about fiscal conservatism as much as they just want a big personality, some steaks fresh from The Sharper Image and an even bigger mountain of debt to pass along to their kids.
  8. Well, sure, I get that no one would pass the purity test of some. I guess I meant someone that doesn't see big government as a weapon the way our current short-sighted, debt-lusting regime does.
  9. If an actual fiscal conservative were to run for the GOP nomination in 2020, how quick do you think Trump's cult of personality devotees would be to discredit or dismiss them?
  10. I'd love to see Kenny on a better team. Whether that be an improved Pelicans squad or through being acquired by another team, I think he could be an incredibly valuable role player on a contender. I called him "Matrix Junior" while he was at TCU, but I really could see him having the type of effect Shawn Marion had with his versatility and intangibles on the Mavs' 2011 title run.
  11. I should've also mentioned Sean Wymer among the strong starts - while he's 0-0 through two starts for Class A Lansing (Blue Jays), he's gone at least 6 innings in both, carries a 3.65 ERA and has 9 K's against just 3 BB.
  12. A few guys off to good starts: -Kevin Cron is hitting 9-for-32 (.281) through 8 games for Triple-A Reno (D'Backs), with 3 doubles, 2 HR and 11 RBI -Brian Howard is 1-0 with a 0.90 ERA through 2 starts for Double-A Midland (A's) -Jerrick Suiter is hitting 9-for-27 (.333) through 7 games for Double-A Altoona (Pirates) -Taylor Featherston is hitting 15-for-35 (.429) with 3 doubles, 1 HR and 8 RBI through 9 games for Double-A Northwest Arkansas (Royals) -Luken Baker is hitting 9-for-29 (.310) with 3 doubles and 6 RBI through 9 games for Advanced-A Palm Beach (Cardinals) -Evan Skoug is hitting 6-for-18 (.333) with a double and triple - and, more importantly, more walks than strikeouts - through 6 games for Class A Kannapolis (White Sox)
  13. -Arrieta notched career victory #100 last night in Miami, striking out 8 and allowing just 1 run in 7 IP. He's 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA through 3 starts, with his next scheduled start coming Wednesday afternoon against the Mets. -Cashner picked up his second straight W on Monday against the A's. He's also 2-1 through 3 starts, with a 5.28 ERA. He's on the hill this afternoon against the Red Sox at Fenway. -Carpenter just signed a 2-year, $37 million contract extension with the Cardinals that could vest for an additional year in 2022 if he meets certain plate appearance thresholds in '20 and '21. He's hit safely in 8 of his last 10 games, but his average sits at just .213 so far for the season, with 1 HR, 3 RBI and a .671 OPS. -No update on Riley Ferrell's status. He's still on the 10-day DL, with no announcement yet as to when he might be activated or begin a potential rehab assignment.
  14. Jake Guenther may be playing his way out of us being able to enjoy seeing him play his senior season in Fort Worth...
  15. Either way, I'm glad he's our coach. Now let's go hit that grad transfer market!
  16. I was very happy to listen to the gloating of the guy who won my office pool - he'd picked Virginia, which meant he jumped over two Tech grads who had been in the lead. Those Tech grads, by the way, are "working from home" this morning 😂
  17. Good luck w...with your bottoms
  18. Carlos Mendez tweeted this morning that Janczak is expected to start tomorrow night at DBU.
  19. Definitely Holmes. Even though I'm sure the Wilsons would still be ahead of him when they're healthy, I was surprised to see him playing LB alongside Wallow with the starters on defense. I should've mentioned him. He had one INT in the scrimmage, and almost another. Sounds like he may be able to see playing time at both S and LB this fall.
