  1. Several Frogs are scheduled to play in this week's Futures tournament in Cancun. Eduardo Roldan won his first-round qualifier, but lost to the qualifying tournament's top seed, Alejandro Mendoza of Bolivia. But the main draw of 32 has three Frogs: second-seeded Gerardo Lopez Villasenor, fourth-seeded Nick Chappell, and unseeded Reese Stalder. All four Frogs are in the doubles tournament. Eduardo is paired with fellow Mexican Juan Ignacio Batalla Diez. Reese is paired with fellow American Grey Hamilton (Ole Miss). Jerry is paired with... fellow Frog Nick Chappell! Jerry and Nick are seeded second. TCU's Czech signees are also active this week, at Pardubice in the Czech Republic. Tadeas Paroulek is in the main draw, but Tomas Jirousek will need to defeat Timo Stodder (Tennessee) tomorrow to qualify.
  2. Cam Norrie is facing Kevin Anderson this morning at Queen's Club in London. Cam started off the match with a break and love hold. Things have gotten more difficult since, but he's still up a break and serving at 3-2 in the first set. Cam didn't give up the break and took the first set, 6-4! The game is now on The Tennis Channel. Cam fought off several break points to even the second set at 2-2. A mention of Cam's TCU connection followed. Still on serve at 4-all in the second set. 5-5. 5-6. Cam needs a hold to get to a tiebreak. Hold achieved. 6-6 and they're into a tiebreak. 5-7 tiebreak. Third set coming up. Cam was just broken for the first time today and it's now 2-3 in the third set. Anderson follows with an easy love hold. 2-4. Hold by Cam. 3-4. Hold by Anderson. 3-5. Easy hold for Cam to get to 4-5, but he has to break Anderson to stay in the match. And that's the match. "Nice showing from Cam Norrie," says the announcer, but he came up short. 6-4, 6-7, 4-6.
  3. The Orioles called last week's trip to Arlington the "Cashner Trip."
  4. Gerardo Lopez Villasenor is into the semis in Cancun.
  5. Gerardo Lopez Villasenor won his first-round match in Cancun. Eduardo Roldan played the top seed in Cancun and did not win. Ali Gray made the main draw at the Surbiton Challenger as a lucky loser, but lost his first-round match. No sign of Cam Norrie there.
  6. The Diamondbacks sent Stefan Crichton back down to AAA Reno.
  7. Frogs are scheduled to face Oklahoma State Wednesday in the late game with a scheduled start of 7:30 pm CDT. Kansas took two from KState today to compete a series sweep and drop the Frogs to the tournament 6-seed.
  8. Bobby Knight tweeted that Gray took a medical timeout. Bleeding.
  9. Rain now. No indoors move announcement yet. Does MSU have indoor courts? A tweet has me thinking they don't.
  10. Nick Chappell won his first-round ITF match at Vero Beach against qualifier Isaiah Strode this morning 6-4, 7-6 (6). He's scheduled to face fifth-seeded Peruvian (and Dukeian) Nicolas Alvarez on Friday. Edit: Oops! I was mistaken about the date for the Chappell-Alvarez match. It was today also. Nick lost 6-7, 1-6 to the favored Peruvian.
  11. Most of Arizona doesn't switch to daylight saving time.
  12. I see that Texas lost 2-4 to USC this afternoon.
  13. Stefan Crichton has a 5.40 ERA with 3 holds in 5 relief appearances (5 innings) for the Diamondbacks. Taylor Featherston is 0-for-3 in 2 games with the Royals. Durbin Feltman struck out 2 and walked 1 in an inning with the Red Sox.
  14. Jantzen Witte singled in his only plate appearance with the Red Sox.
  15. Strike first. Strike hard. No mercy. And sweep some legs while you're at it.
  16. I just saw on twitter that Jenson Brooksby has not only decommitted from TCU but also signed a NLI with Baylor. Ouch.
  17. JT Brooksby is also through to the quarters at Waco after knocking off former Razorback and tournament top seed Michael Redlicki, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. His next oponent: Nick Chappell.
  18. Bengals put Andy Dalton on Injured Reserve.
  19. JT Brooksby is at the Futures tournament in Columbus, Ohio, at An Ohio State University. In first-round qualifying he dispatched Brett Forman 2 and 4. Forman played #1 singles for Michigan State last year. JT's next opponent is Samuel Philp, a Canadian who played college tennis at Mercer.
  20. He'll get to the courts at tennish.
  21. Reese is up two breaks and leads 4-0 in his 3rd set. (6-7, 6-3 in earlier sets.) Chappell and Arias are no longer listed as the doubles opponent for Shropshire and Zhu. An alternate team has taken their spot. Another bit of tennis news: (Tweet from Parsa Nemati) 17-year-old Scot Jacob Fearnley (@fearnley2001) has verbally committed to @TCUMensTennis, and will join the Horned Frogs in the fall of 2019. Has an ITF juniors ranking of #46 and a UTR of 13.76. Has won 4 ITF Juniors singles titles and 6 ITF Juniors doubles titles. https://t.co/XeT28r2WiC
