  1. Second round action in the 6A playoffs: -RJ Nembhard scored 34 as he led Keller to a 63-43 win over Odessa Permian. The Indians are now 29-2 on the season, and their 3rd round game is against North Crowley, Tuesday night at Saginaw HS. -Kendric Davis (2018 commit) scored 19 points and had 10 assists as he led Houston Sam Houston to a 82-58 win over Houston Strake Jesuit. The Tigers are now 34-2 on the season, and their 3rd round game is against Cy Falls Monday night at, oddly enough, Strake Jesuit.
  2. Updates after the West Virginia game: Vladimir Brodziansky: Current season total blocked shots: 69 -PASSED James Penny's '96 & '97 seasons, Kurt Thomas' '95 season -Now tied for #3 all-time with Kurt Thomas' 1994 season -Needs 6 to pass Derrick Davenport's 2001 season for 2nd place -Would need 28 to break Davenport's single-season school record of 96, set in 2000 Current career blocked shots: 103 -Now tied for #5 all-time with Karviar Shepherd -Needs 69 total the rest of this year & all of next to break James Penny's school-record of 171 Kenrich Williams: Current season total rebounds: 248 -Needs 62 to pass Gary Turner (1966) to crack the Top 10 Current career rebounds: 469 -Needs 194 total the rest of this year & all of next to pass Bingo Merriex to crack the Top 10. Alex Robinson: Current season total assists: 157 -Needs 12 to pass Jamie Dixon (1987) to crack the Top 10. Current season total steals: 44 -Needs 14 to pass Albert Thomas (1991) to crack the Top 10
  3. Good article here from Carlos about Zach Humphreys' early playing time. Schloss says that, at least for now in the early going, Humphreys will be behind the plate at least once per weekend. Doesn't go into what happens if Humphreys has to leave one of those games. If Skoug were to switch from DH to C within a game, we lose DH privileges. Happened once back when Jimmie Pharr & Holaday were both in the lineup - Kyle Winkler ended up having to bat for himself, and plopped down a beautiful sac bunt! Would we rather lose the DH, or put a 3rd-stringer (Sturges?) in at catcher?
  4. Saw on Twitter earlier that the rotation has changed a bit for this weekend against the Sun Devils: Howard on Friday, Lodolo on Saturday and Janczak on Sunday.
  5. ...and here's a quick rundown of the Frogs in MLB camps: -Andrew Cashner, Rangers - probably the #4 guy in the rotation behind Darvish, Hamels & Martin Perez -Jake Arrieta, Cubs -Matt Carpenter, Cardinals -Chad Huffman, Cardinals - as mentioned above, trying to win a roster spot - and should pick up some spring training ABs when Carpenter is playing for Team USA in the WBC -Bryan Holaday, Phillies - signed to a minor league deal, in camp as a non-roster invitee -Taylor Featherston, Phillies - non-roster invitee -Brandon Finnegan, Reds -Matt Purke, White Sox - non-roster invitee Also, it was mentioned in the 2016 thread, but Jason Coats was released by the Rays. He need Tommy John surgery, which the club is paying for but means a long road back.
  6. I'll get a 2017 minor league thread started sometime soon as well, but figured this great story from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch about Matt Carpenter and Chad Huffman (who is in Cardinals' camp trying to make the big club) was a good start to the MLB Frogs thread for this season: STL P-D: Friendly Foes Carpenter, Huffman hope to be Cardinals teammates
  7. So, we know that Dalton Brown suffered some kind of injury in the preseason - but do we know how bad it is or how long he'll be out? Dion Henderson we now know will miss the entire season. Ryan Burnett, who has been injury-prone in his time at TCU (but fantastically effective when healthy) has not pitched yet this season. Do we know his status?
  8. 5. Van Zandt/Onyemaobi/Johnson - One of these young DBs is going to crack the rotation and make big plays on special teams. Garrett Wallow may factor in here, too. 4. Tu'ua - As stated above, he's big, strong and his age should give him a leg up on figuring things out quickly enough to contribute right away inside. 3. Robinson - Kind of a wild card, but if he plays this year it means he's officially the leader to start in 2018 so every snap he takes will be big. 2. Manning - Big play ability, and at least early on may be able to take advantage of being overlooked by opposing DCs. 1. Reagor - Dude is just a playmaker.
  9. Pertinent updates after the Iowa State game: Vladimir Brodziansky: Current season total blocked shots: 61 (tied for 7th all-time with Alvardo Parker's 2007 season). -Needs 3 to pass James Penny's 1996 & 1997 seasons to gain sole possession of 5th place -Needs 6 to pass Kurt Thomas' 1995 season for 4th place -Needs 9 to pass Kurt Thomas' 1994 season for 3rd place Current career blocked shots: 95 (6th all-time) -Needs 77 total the rest of this year & all of next to break James Penny's school-record of 171 -Needs 8 to pass Shepherd for 5th Kenrich Williams: Current season total rebounds: 226 -Needs 84 to pass Gary Turner (1966) to crack the Top 10 Current career rebounds: 447 -Needs 216 total the rest of this year & all of next to pass Bingo Merriex to crack the Top 10. Alex Robinson: Current season total assists: 150 -Needs 19 to pass Jamie Dixon (1987) to crack the Top 10. Current season total steals: 43 -Needs 15 to pass Albert Thomas (1991) to crack the Top 10
  10. This is more or less what I've suspected it might look like. Both guard spots are probably a guess right now, so it'll be interesting to see how things progress in the spring.
  11. All pulling for him, and keeping the Snyder family in our prayers.
  12. Getting murdered by the Baylor basketball team just means that their coach will try to frame us as drug dealers.
  13. I really don't understand the complaining about that call. Is it awkward to have a whistle with 1.4 left and have FTs decide a game? Yeah. But Evans VERY CLEARLY fouled Robinson. Should he be allowed to do that, just because of how much time was remaining?
  14. I graduated in 2005.
  15. Easily the drunkest I've ever been at a TCU game. Hoooo boy, that night...
